Who are 1st Wentwood Scout Group?
1st Wentwood Scout Group has been established at the Pike Den in Llanvaches, Newport for 36 years. The current Pike Den building was officially opened 23 years ago on 27th April 1985. During its long history the group has run Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venture Scouts (they are what came before Explorer Scouts).
After some years of running only a Cub pack the group regained a Scout Troop in 2005. Both the Cub pack and Scout troop have grown and now each section regulary has 20 members in attendance. Our plan moving forward is to complement the sections we already run by adding a Beaver Colony. All we need is someone to give up a couple of hours each week to help run this rewarding section of Scouting. We have a number of our ex-Scouts now active with the Newport District Explorer section.
The group is seen regularly at District events and our members are taking part in the wide range of activities on offer. The Scouts again achieved success in 2007 and 2008 by being placed first in the Newport District Scout swimming gala. Another highlight for the Scout section came in 2007 when they entered and won Gwentrek at the first attempt.
We have a team of enthusiastic leaders, a strong momentum and the enthusiasm to make a difference for our members. We want to give them the best possible experience that Scouting can offer.
