'Summer camp this year was great! My favourite activity was the the high ropes course, but every thing we did was brilliant.
I can't believe we got to stand outside Ten downing street and knock on the door. Thanks to all the leaders for making it so much fun!!!! Sam R.

I had a really great time on this years summer camp, we were never bored (except on the hike).

Longridge was really fun because I tried 2 sports I had never done before. These were sailing and dragon boating. Dragon boating was great because we got to see loads of sights. There was a house with a door on the top floor, a castle made out of rice crispie cereal boxes, the house of the author of Wind in the Willows and the house of the creator of Barbie. Sailing was also good because you were able to get more involved with your craft.

The high ropes course was my favourite activity on site, you started off on the top of a hill, then as the the ground goes down the course stays the same height. Bits of it are a bit nerve-racking but it is quite easy, then at the end there is a huge zip wire to slide down.

Our day trip to London held a surprise that no amount of booking could arrange. After an afternoon in the science museum we soared up in the London Eye searching for the sights. Then after a meal in McDonalds who ran out of McFlurries, we met a scout troop all they way from Holland and I even traded neckers. Then as we were talking to Paul Smith from Essex (a police man) he decided to let us inside Downing St. where we met Gordon from Scotland (another policeman).

I would like to thank all the leaders for organizing the trip and the staff at Chalfont Heights (especially Dave and Mike).

This year was my first summer camp and it was AMAZING! I have never had so much fun in 10 days before. All the activities we did were really fun and the food was great (I never thought Skip could cook that well!)

London was really, really fun and I never thought we would actually get to stand on the doorstep of 10 Downing Street.

Thanks to all the leaders who took us and made it so amazing, I cannot wait until next year. Diana S.

We traveled to Chalfont Heights by mini-bus and cars.

The first day we set up camp as normal and explored the site. We had fish & chips for dinner.

On Friday we went to Longridge to do water activities. They included:

Dragon boating, Sailing, Canoeing & Rafting.

We were allowed to capsize a canoe and slide down the hull of a canoe into the Thames.

It rained a lot and some of us were stranded in our sailing boats (for a short while) because the tow-boat had broken down.

We did the traverse wall, which is like a climbing wall except shorter and you go around it rather than up it.

On Monday we went to London. We traveled by underground and we first visited Baden Powell House which was OK. We then went to the Science Museum and spent 3 hours looking around in small groups. After that we had a flight on the London Eye followed by dinner at McDonalds. We met some scouts from Holland and Rhys swapped his necker for one of theirs. We were then very lucky to be invited down Downing Street after we had chatted to a policeman, Paul from Essex and had asked lots of interesting questions. We all had our photos taken in the doorway of Number 10 and talked to Gordon (another policeman). Mark became PM (peeing Mark!!!) because he went to the little boys room in Number 10.

During the week we did the following activities: Shooting, Archery, Skittles, BMXing, Climbing, Adventure Zone, High Ropes & the Rabbit Run.

We went on a Day Hike and stopped at a pub for refreshment. From a bridge over the motorway , we waved at traffic. Lots of them waved back or beeped their horns or flashed their lights.

We had to prepare a song and a prayer for Scouts Own. Each patrol then presented them at the camp Chapel. It was very calming and peaceful. We enjoyed it.

We cooked Sunday Lunch on an open fire using our ovens. It was delicious and we even managed gravy. We also did backwoods cooking later on in the week which we prepared ourselves with the help of Tigger and Karen. We had a BBQ after the day hike which was very nice and on one of the morning we cooked our own breakfast.

We went swimming 3 times which we all enjoyed. We did our usual synchronized falling into the pool.

At the end of camp we all got some presents,  a Cup, Badges, Keyring, Pen, Badge Pin to remind us of our time in camp. We presented the leaders with a pen and a medal. By Elis & Kyle P

We had a great time on the camp, we both agree (how is that possible) that the high ropes and the zipwire (complete with wobbly pole) was the best thing. We also enjoyed the archery (and the mars bar), the cyclo cross (1st and 2nd  place) as well as the trip to London. Volleyball (or is it Volley-dodge-chase-foot-ball) was good fun and the skittles was even better. Despite all this Ian still insists that the kit inspections were his third best thing (even more inspections for next year please, has he gone mad!) thanks very much for a great 10 days.

Alan + Ian = Brook-brothers.  Mums comment; Alan is still whistling!

Thank you for looking after us on Summer Camp. I had a lot of fun and I enjoyed all the activities and the best was going to London. The London Eye meant that we had some brilliant views and I wasn't scared. 10 Downing street was also great fun. Mark was lucky to go inside and have a wee! The high ropes were great because the zip wire was awesome!! Being in the tent with Mark, Ian, Rhys and Nelly was a lot of fun and we laughed lots, (Even though Mark kept on making smelly noises!!). Sailing was fun and I managed to stop Edward from sinking. Can't wait to go again next year, even if my sister will be coming too!!! Sion E

This summer camp was great! We did numerous activities each one fantastic and different (especially London). I cannot name a favourite activity as each one I believe was special and exciting in its own special way, like London where we visited the famous Downing street something which shall stick in our minds forever. But also the activities on camp like the high ropes, the shooting, and all other activities we did were great as well and to be recognised for how good they were.
And on my final note I would like to tell you the most significant part of us all working together helping and having fun strengthening and reinforcing the bonds of friendship between us for a long time to come. Edward W
.

This Summer Camp has to be one of the best I have been on. I still can't believe that we stood on the doorstep of 10 Downing Street!!!

I really enjoyed the high ropes!! Even though it was a little bit scary!!  The day trip to Longridge was great too. I would like to thank all the leaders for all their help. Cannot wait until next year. Emma H.

Summer camp was really fun and i enjoyed it as it was my first camp as a Scout. On this camp our day trip was to London, we did lots of things, one of them included going to 10 Downing Street, i got to go inside as i needed a pee. By the PM (peeing Mark)Mark H.

I had a good time on summer camp, the weather was good ....some of the time.

I enjoyed all the activities, especially sailing even though we capsized - it was Jamal's fault!

I really enjoyed our trip to London as well, especially the visit to No 10 Downing Street.

This was my 2nd summer camp so far and it was better than the last one.

Thank you for the 10 days of fun. Sam S.

I really enjoyed summer camp 09 and I hope to go again. The food was brilliant and I have to say my favourite was the breakfasts (but the rice pudding as well). I loved pretty much every thing (apart from the duties) but I think my favourite was the canoeing and rafting and the jumping in the water at the end...thanks. Georgie R.

Wow, Summer Camp 2009 was THE best summer camp that I have been on.  Throughout the 10 days that we were there we did loads of activities and all of them were ‘AWESOME.  There were lots of other Scout and Guide Groups that we could ‘SOCIALISE’ with.  We went away from the campsite many times so that we could go to the swimming pool, Longridge and London!!! where we all had a blast of a time especially when we went to Number 10 and we were allowed on to the street and had our pictures taken on the door step, and then at half past ten at night the Wentwood Scout Group had their annual shopping trip to Tesco.

Throughout the ten days we had lots of activities to do and we had plenty of time to chill out and relax.  I think Skip deserves a huge thank you from everyone who went on the camp because he puts a huge amount of effort into it, and I can guarantee there will be plenty more camps to come (but it will be difficult to beat this one.) Rob (The Doctor)

Summer camp was fun it was the best summer camp I have ever been on because we went to 10 Downing Street and went on the London eye. The science museum was also the best because we got to see all the rockets and the old  cars.

When we were in London we swopped Necker's with a Dutch scout group we also had are photo taken with them. I loved the high ropes because I have never done it before and it was a great experience. At the camp site we met a group of girl guides and we got their phone numbers and Jammy loved that because he was flirting with them the whole time.  Georgia H.

Summer camp was amazing. I loved all the activities, my favourite has to be the trip to London. Skip was wonderful and holy Tigger you were the best cook ever. See you on camp next year. Abigail J.

This year was my first summer camp and it was fantastic! We did lots of cool stuff like the high ropes, dragon boating and climbing and lots of other cool stuff I liked it a LOT! Daniel H.

When we were on the London Eye we had our picture taken by Jennifer from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. You can see the picture at the bottom left of this page.
